SOUTH with the School of Earth Sciences at Yunnan University to hold a series of science popularization activities

On December 25 and 26, 2024, SOUTH, with the School of Earth Sciences of Yunnan University, went to Xishuangbanna to carry out a series of science popularization activities of intelligent monitoring of natural resources in the southwest frontier under the vision of the "the Belt and Road", and sowed the seeds of hope of science and technology to Jinghong No. 1 Middle School, Xishuangbanna Yizhong and Jinuo National Primary School, bringing many wonderful UAV demonstration and experience activities for students.

The participants of this science popularization activity include young talents from Yunnan Province's "Xingdian Talents" program, Associate Professor Yang Mengshi from the School of Earth Sciences at Yunnan University, and renowned teachers from Yunnan Province's "Xingdian Talents" program, as well as Associate Professor Liu Rui, Director of the Department of Geographic Information Science at the School of Earth Sciences at Yunnan University. The two teachers respectively brought "3S Black Technology: How to Make Maps, Satellites, and the Earth Dialogue The themed science popularization lecture on "Sky Detective: Exploring the Secrets of Biomass Combustion and Pollution with Remote Sensing" broadens students' horizons and ignites their strong interest in drone applications.

After two teachers gave vivid reports, Southern surveying engineer Chen Pengshu demonstrated the drone in the center of the outdoor field. This time, he showcased the new generation of aerial surveying tool Zhihang SF600P drone from Southern, which can carry a load of up to 1500g and support normal shooting, tilting, laser and other operation modes, achieving precise terrain following flight. The drone is equipped with the Southern T53P tilt camera, which has 5 independent cameras and a total pixel of 210 million, capable of high-precision modeling. Accompanied by the rhythmic buzzing sound of the propeller, the drone slowly ascended into the air,

Then, it gracefully hovered in the air, completing the collection of images of the teaching building.

At Jinuo Ethnic Elementary School, more than 570 students watched the drone flight display. After that, a southern surveying engineer walked into the classroom and transformed into a patient science popularization teacher, explaining in detail and in an orderly manner the various components and functions of drones, and allowing children to experience the process of equipping drones with "wings". The students listened attentively one by one, and through this explanation, they gained a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of this modern technological product.

The Jinuo ethnic group is the last confirmed ethnic minority in China, with a population of over 20000. They mainly live in Jinuo Mountain Jinuo Township, Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Most of the students in Jinuo Mountain Ethnic Primary School are Jinuo. This campus science popularization tour, jointly created by the Southern Surveying and Mapping and the School of Earth Sciences at Yunnan University, is like a warm spring breeze that blows into the hearts of students, planting seeds of technology and innovation in their hearts. We believe that in the future, these seeds will take root, sprout, and bloom into brilliant flowers of science and technology.
